Halloween is Coming

Halloween is just around the corner and we have been gearing up at the Hahn house. We kicked off the festivities last weekend with a trip to Vala's Pumpkin Patch to pick up our pumpkins. Turns out Vala's is quite the operation--the place is so big with so much going on that they actually give you pamphlets with maps and showtimes on your way in. We saw a pumpkin-eating dragon, watched the Pigtucky Derby, explored the haunted mine, navigated the corn maze, visited Bunnytown, and oh yeah, did we mention there is a pumpkin patch there as well...

The entrance to the pumpkin patch.

The pamphlet dubbed this contraption 'Xander, the Pumpkin-Eating Dragon' but realistically he should have been 'Xander, the Big, Goofy Robot That Drops Pumpkins from Really High.'

Us getting lost in the corn maze.

They had a show that used three different methods of hurling fruit into the air. The first was a giant slingshot (on the right, behind the guy) that shot apples. They didn't go too far. The second was a small air cannon (on the right, in front of the guy) that also shot apples. They didn't go a whole lot farther. The third was a large cannon (the orange one on the left) that launched pumpkins. They made it all the way over the tops of the trees in the background, making the large cannon by far the crowd favorite.

And now for some fun with cheesy cardboard photo ops:
I can't get this photo to turn sideways for this post. =(

The Pigtucky Derby! My money is on the pink piggy, Christina Hogulara, and Brendt's is on the red piggy, Bo Piglini.

Brendt enjoying the long, cold wait for the hayride out to the pumpkin patch.

It was totally worth the wait to get out to the patch and pick these fine pumpkins. Can you guess who made which pumpkin?

Spooky.

Our sad attempt to decorate for Halloween. It is scary for all the wrong reasons.

Looks like a great pumpkin patch! We did the whole pumpkin patch thing last week too. (You can see our pics on our blog.) However, I am thinking we got ripped off... we had no hurling of fruit or goofy dragons!
