Moving the Office

Most of you probably remember how pumped Brendt and I were to finish the office last October. We were finally able to use the space invader wall decals that we'd bought over a year before. Well, when we found out we were expecting a new addition to the family in November, we grudgingly decided that the office would really make the most reasonable room for a nursery. That being said, over the past few weeks we have been preparing a space in the basement for our desk and slowly but surely moving our office into the newly finished basement. I have pictures of our old office here for sentimental value. I remember taking these photos like it was yesterday. Who knew that less than a year after finishing this it would have to be transformed into an entirely different room...

My desk.
We painted the walls orange and gray, with the gray color to symbolize a computer screen for the aliens to march across.

Brendt's desk.

The aliens!

For the new space, we decided that painting a magnetic board on the wall might be kinda fun. Brendt also had the idea to build one of his famous floating shelves with built-in lighting for the space. Here's an abridged play-by-play:First, we measured and taped off a square of wall.

Next, we applied three coats of magnetic paint inside the square.

Then we peeled off the tape and Presto! Just as easy as it looks on TV. You can see the 2x2 support that Brendt mounted for his shelf over the magnetic board as well.

Up went the shelf and we conducted a few quick checks to the space.
Magnets stick to wall...check.

Lights in floating shelf work...check.
Then we added the border for the magnet board by simply nailing it to the wall.

This is pretty close to the finished project, but we still have some organizing to do. And magnets to buy to spruce up the board. You can tell in this picture that we finally got around to adding most of the upper trim to the walls as well. As far as trim goes, mostly we only have to add door frames and we are pretty much done with the basement!

A bonus picture of two of my favorite boys!

The Bump

Just a few pictures to show off my baby bump! I haven't grown out of many of my pants yet, but my days are numbered. I think this means I wear my pants too baggy and low. On the other hand, most of my shirts are too tight, but maternity shirts look way too big on me. I'm in a very annoying stage of pregnancy--in between my normal clothes and maternity wear. In the past week or so, my belly has really begun to take off, as you can tell by the photos below.

Week 6

Week 10

Week 15

Week 22 (the night of this post)

And here's my ultrasound of our little peanut at week 19! The picture on the top left is a shot of the face head on, second down on the left is Peanut's arms and hands, and bottom left is a tiny baby foot! On the right, obviously, these are all profile pics, but the top right picture is the little one sucking on his/her hand! Too cute!

The Baby Has Arrived!

Well...Brendt's baby at least. Here are some of the latest pics of progress in the basement, aka Brendt's nursery. One of the last projects we finished was the "cradle" for his "baby."

This was an old piece of furniture that Brendt's mom gave to us. I believe they had it in storage for quite awhile and had come thiiiiiiis close to throwing it out a few times. We immediately saw stellar potential as a tv stand. Unfortunately, we didn't get a shot of it before we started working on it, but we had to kick off a back piece that was tacked on and scrape wads of I-don't-even-want-to-knows off the top of this stand before we could even start sanding and peeling the paint off.

A close-up to see some of what we had to deal with, but like I mentioned we had already scraped the unidentifiable globs off of it.

The finished product!

Even nice enough to hold Brendt's new bundle of joy!

This is pretty much the state of our walls right now. You can see that we have taped, sanded, primed and painted. We have the baseboards up but are still working on getting the border on top.

This was my latest sewing project. Ryn helped me make a cute little spring timey purse. I wish I had more pictures of it since I look so anti-glamorous here, but I'm too lazy to go take another picture. =)

I promise to have more pictures of the basement soon. We are working on moving the office into the basement right now and we are both pretty excited about how the new space is turning out. Hoping to have it finished by this coming weekend!!
